    MLF

I have been wondering while watching MLF why the decided to use the 18’ boats. Was it a sponsor thing or was it easier to not have the player drag their boats there e or what? I don’t know if this had been discussed or not I just wondered when I saw those big waves on Amistad.

Though they don't speak of it much, I believe that I read somewhere that Major League Fishing ( ) was trying to show that you don't need a 20 or 21 foot boat to catch fish. One of the other things, and I don't know how it really matters, goes to Marty Stone wanting to take these anglers out of their "comfort zones". Not sure how that will make a difference but it has been said. I think the final piece is that while running 18 footers with 150's, they won't be travelling around quite as much. Pick a spot, hunker down and fish. Again, not so sure that you can't adequately cover water in those boats as they sccot along pretty good.

If you find something else out I would like to hear it.

It's about trying to sell boats. Since the industry went from selling 30,000 boats a year a few years back to 6,000 last year, they need to try and create some interest on a boat priced where more people can afford them. The market for $50k plus boats is very, very small these days.

    Re: MLF (rgbrunson)

That's what I'm thinking. I wondered if it was a push for the smaller boat. I just wondered if anybody had ever said what the real reason for it was.

    Re: MLF (Basswipe)

you guys got me to thinking... wouldn't it be cheaper for Major League Fishing to supply all of them 18 ft /150's boats than 20+ ft /250's?

    Inaugural season, and all...

Durn tootin' - there ya have it....

The biggest market in the boat industry right now is the 18 foot mid-range priced boats. If they show the pros using them, makes us want-a-bes decide we can afford a mid-range boat.

    Re: MLF (dirtmonkey)

Well, if they brought their own 20 footers it could be pretty cheap on them too. However some of the sponsors lose the exposure.

Gotta admit the Nitro Z-7 is a nicely laid out boat.

The bass cat with the rod locker that extends into the seating area.....what were they thinking?
