This is the desert north of LA this morning. I love the diversity in California. If it wasn't so far left politically and such an unreasonably expensive place I would definitely live there. Luckily I get to see the entire state every month from San Diego to Chico and then get to go home.
It is very diverse. Today in about 2 hours or so I could go from the beach, to the snow in the mountains, through some high desert and down to the low desert. Sea level to 4,000+' to actually just below sea level in a few of the low desert places.
From my backyard, about 20 minutes from the beach to the west, I can look east and see all the snow that fell in the mountains yesterday and this morning. Forecast for tomorrow is about 70 where I live.
I love the high deserts in California, really the low ones too, but the high desert after a storm is very beautiful. I almost had to make a quick trip north to the lower eastern Sierra's this morning and thought the Grapevine might be a handfull. There was a lot of snow falling up there yesterday.
A bit expensive it is and I ignore most of the politics.
