Abu Revo Owners Please Step Inside

Over the years I have been strictly a Daiwa guy when it comes to reels. However some things that they have done with their products over the years have aggravated me(priced themselves too high, discontinued popular models). blah blah blah.

Well here is my my issue. i have become pretty fond of the the Revos over the past few years. I like pretty much "everything" about them I own and have used, the S,SX,STX, Premier and the MGX. Here lies my problem.....

When a bait gets hung up and I snap my line. (you know the bow snap trick)... The reel frame is cutting my line. This happens to me pretty regualrly with the revos. And Im talking 17-20 Flouro and specifically the STX's. There is a very sharp edge on the top of the reel frame above the line roller and it actually comes to a point.

The first couple times this happened I just chalked it up as a bad spot in the line, but after experiencing it some more, I have noticed that the line breaks in the same spot and is very close to the spool.

Am i alone in this? I really like these reels from a performance and durbility standpoint, but man this issue is driving me crazy.

Please SOMEONE tell me they have the same problem!!!

The arrow below is pointing to what i believe is the culprit. Or I need to lay off the Wheaties

Can only speak for the 'S' Revos, but haven't had any problems of that nature... Guess I'll have to check that edge on my reels.

You need to hold your line down against the blank when you snap your line so it will never reach back to the line guide or that point your talking about, had some reels I wore a groove in the plastic line guides and got in the habit of holding it down and fixed that problem.

Maybe you are pulling straight towards you when you snap it? I pull mine to the side with my left hand and have never had a problem. sx, stx, inshore, premieres

That acutually not a bad Idea.

And pulling to the side doesnt sound bad either. I'll have to pay attention to how I am doing it and report back.

I've got a half dozen of the STX's, throw crankbaits a lot and have to snap them free, haven't ever had that problem. But next time I snap a bait of a log I'm gonna look to see what might be causing your issue and see if I can get back to you on it.

Never had that happen with my SX or Winch and popped line in every direction you can think of trying to free a bait.

I have many SX and STXs and never had the problem until I got a Winch. I had it happen twice with the Winch but now I will try the line trick and see if it fixes the problem.

Im in the never had that happen category. But I do as well snap more to the side than straight up and rarely snap at that high of an angle to begin with...

I own about 8 stx's and one winch, never had a problem. Try filing the edge down smooth if you think that is causing the problem or putting some electrical tape over the area or the other mentioned fixes by others.

The levelwind has a ceramic lining inside it. I broke one on another brand and it would cut my line in certain situations before I found it. Not saying that is your problem but you might check it with a Q-tip

I've had 4 SXs for several years and have not had that problem with the 2 I throw cranks on.

maybe put a small piece of electrical tape over the edge?

I own two Aurora Elites. These are $500 reels and the finish of the castings is crap.
