    My 600LB Life on TLC

Feel sorry for these obese people and what they have to go through or think they are pathetic for letting themselves get that big and need to be cared for like a baby?

Both, part of the big problem is all the processed foods sold now. I can't figure out how they pay for all that food and health care but I'm affraid to ask.

I totally disagree with that statement. The rest of us eat the same "processed foods" but we don't end up weighing 600+ lbs. Most of us know when we've had enough to eat. And many of us try to eat as healthy as possible.

Obviously sometimes there are medical conditions that just cause that sort of thing, but most of the time it is two factors. One is the person themself, and the other is the caretaker(s) who facilitate it. If someone is too big to get out of bed and make themself something to eat then don't serve them yourself! It amazes me how many family members keep shoving food at these people even after they haven't been able to get out of bed for months and months. It is 90% psychological at the start but then grows into a severe medical condition...and that goes for both the person and the caretaker.

Its a life choice in their case. Unless it is a thyroid issue but if it was, then your doctor should have helped the situation. You get that big by sitting on your a$$ all day and eating 6,000 calories a day. My best friend is pushing that 360lb mark and does nothing about it.

Re: My 600LB Life on TLC (tdutton)

Other than a medical problem, be it physical or mental, these are choices that people make for themselves. Untill they are ready to change there is not much anyone can do. In todays world we have so many resources at our finger tips, some good some not so good. Take the time and get educated to make them right choices.

IMO there is a line that I walk personally that is in the middle of-man these people have issue-depression, issues from parents, etc, and the other side that says wow, get off the couch and go for a walk.

There is always more than one side to virtually everything, this one is more black/white than gray, but there is surely SOME gray.

I know some people that had the stomach surgery and lost a ton of weight...Yet they magically gained a majority of it back. It has to be a lifestyle change. Get your mind right...

My sister is about 400lbs. She was never that heavy until her husband left her and two kids without warning and without an income and he is very slow in paying any support for the kids she has had a very tough time. I think she has used food as a diversion from her situation. There is a physiological issue there and she has refused to get help. This may be the problem with other obese people.

Not trying to correct you to be a Weiner but because it is important, and your on to something.

She has a psychological problem(s) than manifests itself as a physiological problem.

This is what I was getting at in my post a few posts above.

Re: My 600LB Life on TLC (KLAKE)

As a Firefighter, I have to respond to EMS calls...I see how these people live and DO NOT feel sorry for them. Most of these obese people live in squalor, don't bathe, and obviously don't work. Bad enough when it takes upwards of 8-12 guys to get a 500-600 lber out of their house with aid of a Mega-Mover (large tarp with handles they are shimmied on to so we can move them). Do you really think there's time to get them out if there's a fire??? Sorry but it ain't happening!!! So when you look at it from the First Responder's POV, they are not just putting their own life at risk by being obese, but the lives of others as well!!!

Amen.....its called self respect, will power and not eating like one has 3 *******z. It's amazing these days everyone has an excuse...depression, anxiety, stress......why is today any different than 50 yrs ago? Or during the great depression, people had no access to todays meds and they got by, didn't gorge themselves or take meds. When I was a kid nobody took pysch meds....now every kid my son knows is on some type of med to control behavior.......its amazing the pharmaceutical companies have found a way to infiltrate almost every ones lives at such a young age.
    Question everything!
