    @#$%! Hackers

The main reason for posting this is to help other people that may get this virus.
I just spent the last two days trying to fix my computer. Once we found out what it was it only took about 30 minutes to fix. McAfee picked up the Trojan and deleted it but apparently a program got through and hid all of my files. When I opened the computer on Saturday I only had a black screen and recycle bin. I guess the program hides all of your files and then hides itself in your run file. It appears that your computer crashed and everytime you reboot it just reruns the program. We had to go back in to the OS and unhide all of the files, find the bad program .exe, and delete it. I can't understand for the life of me why people do this. I can't help but think how many people are disrupted by jackasses like this.

BTW...when I say We I mean me and the computer smart guy that helped me.

Run Avast free version and do a boot time scan. Solves almost all viruses before boot up even happens. Fixed many friends computers that way.

Use Combofix next time. It will clean up and fix all that is wrong in about 10 minutes.

+1. Avast is undoubtedly the BEST free software out there. We actually advised all of our customers to uninstall McAfee, Norton, or anything else they were running and to use Avast. It definitely does a much better job.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will clean it up and keep a system clean. also download WinPatrol, That prevents anything from installing on your computer with out your approval . Both free. Shoot me an IM and Ill give you the links.

I had something like that on a computer I worked on once... but it took all the .exe files and changed their associations so if you clicked one, it opened them with the virus program. once the virus was gone, none of the programs would run. FINALLY I got them re-associated and it worked.

Had a hacker hit mine a couple'a months ago. Cost me alittle over $400 to get it fixed. I hate stuff like that.

Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Microsoft Security Essentials do a fine job of protecting a person from that stuff and cleaning it out if you do get anything.

Skip, how in the world did you get nailed for $400 to fix a spyware problem? Heck I only charge 75-125 to back up files and reformat everything. That's a for sure fix for any kind of infection.

I guess I'm easy and sorta long in the tooth. Next time I'll be alittle more tight with my money. I use Trend Micro and I guess I should change.

My son also runs a Mac. He is into computers and could fix mine when I need it but he lives 2 1/2 hours north of me. My next one may be an Apple.

Same here, and problem free. I still am cautious about downloads - but still go in a manually clean out files, caches and cookies often.

I will never own another brand - still as fast as the day I got it.

    Re: (Skip)

It's better to run the cleaners, catchers while in safe mode. The hidden program parts cant be deleted while they are running.
