I have my boat on craigslist, I receive a reply on the add tonight from a Brandon Miller in the USAF. He wants to buy my boat, but wants to send the money through paypal because he is over seas. ?? I replied cash in hand would work just fine. I googled his name and there is a Brandon Miller in the Air Force stationed out of Florida. Which he could be on deployment, but doesn't sound real to me.
unfortunately, there are many scammers using info they received off of social networking sites. Proceed w/caution, but I can say that I know many active duty members that try and line something up while overseas. If they talk about a shipping co. you may have a scammer, LIKE ABOVE, PROCEED W/CAUTION.

my son has my old rig for sale on c list...he got almost the identical response.......RUN from it.....
If you're not asked to send any money and he's actually going to PayPal the money then it could be legit.

Hear these types of things almost identical to this at work and they are more than likely scams.

Find him on Facebook and send him a message asking if he is actually looking for a boat. More than likely a scam though.
I asked him if he was stationed in Florida and if his C.O. could help with the deal. No response, going to label this a scam.

Sounds like your best course of action unless you do get a reply....
Tell him to paypal you a deposit of $500. He can paypal the reaminder to a friend, family, spouse and have them bring you the CASH

Here's a good rule of thumb for Craigslist to work properly. All big ticket purchases must be made in person, PERIOD! I mean who sends money to purchase a boat sight unseen? I don't. I wanna ride in it before I fork over a few grand for something like that. I wanna look it over, do a compression check, hear it run, and talk to the owner. I especially wanna haggle a bit. The main thing to remember is if it doesn't feel right, somethings wrong. Run away from this one.

Who is going to pick it up? Have the USAF guy Paypal the money to them and give it to you upon pick up.
Not all deals done over the net concerning boats are scams. My buddy used to play for TN Vols FB and signed on for tightend with the Tampa Bay Bucs. He said the first thing he was gonna do was buy a boat with his money. Well,a couple months after signing he was here back at home and was leaving for Tampa Bay,before he did so though he called and made a transaction over the phone for a new z21 from a dealer in FL. All I'm saying is most are scams but some not. And most wanna test drive but,some don't. In your case with Craigslist and him supposingly being over seas and all,its probably a scam.
