if for nothing else then loading and unloading your boat by yourself they are worth it.

I fish KY lake all the time and I have never needed them. I spend the majority of the year fishing water too deep for power poles.

THat's been my thinking all along. I can't remember a time that I "needed" one of them. I have been in skinny water before trying to fish a milfoil line, but like you said ... most of the time I'm sitting in water that is 15' or more deep. WAY too much money, imo.

Yep, I also use it a lot for when I'm re tying and dont have to worry about running into the rocks. I was surprised in the amount of times that I use mine (came on the boat when I bought it).

Pretty much, Ft. Loudon is the place to use them...and even then, it's pretty site specific. I wouldn't waste the money.

The only time I could see it usefull is in the fall when you are in the very back of the bays. If you ever decide to fish Old Hickory I could see it being usefull their from time to time.

I dont own one. I think there pretty neat and dont hate on the people that have them. But from what I heard you really need 2 of them to stay completely stationary.

Mike, Thanks for the reply. As we both know as much as i can afford them and the wife said i can get them i still would rather put the money towards something like a family trip.

The people that came up with the idea of the Power pole are genius and I hope they enjoy their success. I have fished for years without one and will continue. I think some people add them to the boat to keep up with the Jones. I see no need for a power pole. It is a great idea but what is a anchor used for then. I have fished the flats in Florida all the way to the Great Lakes and never needed one. We--All of us are taking fishing to the extreme. It is a wonder with all the tech. and all of the high priced boats that any of us old farts were able to catch a fish.

I'm not saying it's necessary. But, it is a valuable tool, that i've found to be very important in my fishing arsenal. If you fish ledges all year, no it's probably not the best investment, maybe side imaging would be. There have been many situations that the power pole has helped me put fish in the boat, and without it, I wouldn't have.

Power poles are just like a depthfinder/GPS.......you don't NEED them, but once you have one and see how well it works and how much you CAN use it, you will understand

Re: Power Poles in Tenn (alex98)

I have two power poles. They are not a necessity, more of a convenience..a very expensive convenience. But most fishing equipment i.e. fish finders, 30 rods in a boat and a hundred pounds of tackle are all really just a convenience. It's your boat, if you want'em...get'em. If you don't don't...don't. You'll get a variety of opinions on here just like every other topic here.

Re: Power Poles in Tenn (SSNCHIEF)

I have seen times in mid april of each year where a powerpole could be very beneficial, espcially in clear water like dale hollow or center hill.

I would get them. My current boat had them on it when I bought it. I had every intention of taking it off and selling. I never did do that and used them a few times. Now I am hooked on them though they are rarely used. Once you have them you must always have them. Now every boat I buy will have them.

I would use them a lot I think. Last year my partner and i started noting everytime we thought we could use one in a situation just to kinda see how many times you could use it. We saw a lot of scenarios it would be handy. With thay said we still made it fine without it

+1, unless you fish Lake Guntersville in Alabama. Then I would say , yes.
