I'm not a big panfish/crappie fisherman, but I use a 5'6" pflueger ultra light spinning combo from Academy. It handles them fine with a little bit of fight to make it fun.

how about a bionic blade from BPS. Used to use them years ago and they were good, I'm sure they only improved as technology got better. they are about 59.00 or so.

BPS has some crappie rods that are pretty good. B-N-M makes a 6.5' spinning rod for like $35.00

St. Croix.....Premier.....I have one 6'6" and one 7'.....They are very sensitive rods for the money especially the 6'6" one. Light as a feather and I use 4lb on it most of the time for open water fishing and 10lb. fireline on the 7' one with little heavier jigs. I also use a Falcon 6'6" for 1/8th oz. to 1/4oz. jigs or small crankbaits. The 6'6" Premier rod is my favorite because it is so light. I use Pfluegers on the St. Croix rods and a shimano on the falcon.

Ugly Stick makes a nice little panfish rod. Wally world or Dicks carry them.

I found a little Diawa Megaforce rod at a local shop that is awesome. It cost me about $35 if I remember right.

I have a light action st croix premier that I really like. 6'6" and can toss crappie jigs with ease. My favorite ones are daiwa heartlands, great L rod that doesn't cost much.

Not sure they still make them, I have two of them I got in a trade.

Here's my Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner 6' 8" UL. They retail for $130, but can be found for $90 - $100.

Try to stay away from short UL rods - casting distance suffers. This rod will fling a Strike King Bitsy Minnow crankbait a ways. I've caught 5 lb bass on this rod without issue.

Re: Ultra light spinning rod (whoza_daddy)

Check out the Bass Pro Micro Lite rods, they are an awesome for the money. I picked up one on sale a while back for about $34, normal price is $49.99.
It all depends on how much you want to spend, I have some Shimano Compre rods that are extremely light and sensitive, and a Temple Fork Outfitters rod that has a little more backbone, but still and awesome rod. These run about $100 ea.

I use a couple of Zebco Slabseeker combos. They only cost 30 - 40 bucks each but you can cast an 1/8 oz jig a country mile with them.

Got and ugly stick from Wal-mart and have had it for 10+ years. Bought it for exactly what you want to do. That little pole is tough as nails IMO.

Re: Ultra light spinning rod (whoza_daddy)

I bought a 6 ft ul rod at wal mart made by garcia called a cardinal. it was $20 I put a $25 cardinal reel on it and I love it. its actually pretty sensitive and has enough backbone to fight 4 and 5 lb white bass! By far it has exceeded my expectations for around $50. It throws 1/32 jigs pretty well on 6lb test pretty well too!

Re: Ultra light spinning rod (whoza_daddy)

My girlfriend has been using a Shimano Clarus UL for a couple of years now. She uses it for everything from perch to bass to pike. I put a Stradic FH2500 reel on it with Power pro 20 lbs. It works great. She's usually light jigs, tubes, and danglers (wacky senkos), although she has thrown crankbaits on it, they wear her out to easy. Her hands go numb easily so we had to play around (it meant I got my Crucial and Cumara back).

I also have a st. croix premiere in 6 foot and its brought in its share of 4 lb trout and held up fine. You can actually feel it flex under the cork but it works great. Probably cost around 100 still. I use a micro pfluger president reel with 4lb test.
