    Running a new E-tec 225 H.O.

I just purchased a 06 225 E-tec. I have been reading the posts and have some questions. 1. I am running XD-50 as availability of XD 100 was limited, anyway
do I have to decarb or use anything like ring free?? Also if I want to change to XD100 is all I have to do is have it reprogramed and drain the tank and fill with XD-100?? I guess I have to change my handle now..Thanks

You can use the XD-100 anytime you would like. If you will be running the XD-100 exclusively, reprogramming will cut the consumption (about 1/2). You do not have to do the programming if you do not want to. Either way, the XD-100 is a lot better oil to be using in these engines.

Congratulaions on your purchase. You will be pleased.

I can't tell you what you'll have to run using the XD-50 because I use XD-100 and I don't have to add anything.

If you do switch the programming to XD-100, you will need to make sure the XD-50 is completely out of the system. Use as much of it up before changing the programming so you don't have to drain/discard as much. It will scare you after you first switch to XD-100. You'll think the motor isn't burning any oil.

Availability of XD-100 ? R@W in E-town should have it. K@P in Campsville does have it and there should be more than one boat dealer in the Louisville area that should carry it. I have never owned a E-Tech motor but one of the advantages of those motors is the low oil consumption in the XD- 100 setting...plus XD-100 is a pure synthetic oil made from an ashless formula. What does that mean...little to no carbon build up(some of the E-Tech gurus correct me if I am wrong) I would run the motor low on 50 then fill it up with 100 then run it low and have the computer programmed for XD- 100 and stay with XD-100.

If you run the XD-50 you Will need to use BRP Engine Tuner at least once a year.

When you get ready to switch to the XD-100 run the oil tank low and fill it with XD-100, run the motor for at least 2 hours above 2000 RPM, have the dealer verify that XD-100 is in the motor oil lines, looking at the small hoses will work, then set the EMM for XD-100.
