    gps street name update?

The street name for the company I work for shows up on GPS systems as the old street name. The name was changed like 10+ years ago. Why hasn't it updated within the GPS maps that are out there? Where do GPS companies get their update info from? It would be nice to get the word out about the road name change because we get many calls a day from people wanting to know how to find us. Any insight is appreciated.

It would be nice if they updated a bit. A lot of rural address's are not even on the map info and when they are its usually the wrong one. I have had instances where a company will not ship an item because its marked as an undeliverable address.

Don't know if it eventually trickles down/out to GPS companies but Google seems to be setting the standard in mapping. If you have an account w/ Google you can make edits to maps here. http://www.google.com/mapmaker The edits go through an approval process and get published.

When was the last time you updated your gps? If its been awhile, it may have been done but without the update, your gps doesnt know the road name has been changed.

Many Cities have a GIS (Geographical Information Systems) department and they have to update them so they could be way behind or no one updating your area.

Do a search...Google, reporting gps map errors. Also check the manufacturers websites, they usually have a link to report discrepancies.

It could be that no one has notified the GPS company of the change? Simply send them an update so that they can look into it.

Most of the time, GPS units such as Garmin, Tom Tom, etc. all have to be manually updated using your computer. Normally, there is a pretty substantial fee for this as well. If you ever purchase a new unit, make sure it comes with free lifetime updates.

I already got a reply from Google, just notified them this morning, that states that they have reviewed my update and approved it and put it in place. that was fast.
