I posted on Mercury Forum but please review if you do not visit that forum.

I was just out about 3 weeks ago in the boat and it ran fine. I took it to the shop today to have the annual water pump done. I then took it to the lake and it would not start. I took it back to the shop and he put the ears on it and it fired right up. After this I took it back to the lake and it then took forever to get started again. Once it started it idled fine but when i floored it it just bogged down. I would only run about 2k rpms and would not plane. I took it back to the shop and the owner run the computer on it and everything check out. We put new spark plugs on it and I took it back to the lake. Samething this time except it finally built up some power and planed of. Once on plane it was gone. I came back off plane and then it would not plane again. I noticed when I trailered the boat and ran it up the rpm hand would go up and come back down, still bogging but it was like it was building up fuel pressure and then loosing it. I have a 2000 mercury efi. Please Help.

When was the last time you had the fuel lines and primer bulb replaced? And are you using the primer bulb prior to starting the motor?

did you check the fuel filter? Might need to be replaced. Also, If the inner lining of the gas line has deteriated it could cause it to collapse and it would idle fine, but wouldn't get enough gas to the engine when it needs it.

I'm by no means an expert, but had problems with my EFI last year and I ran across a lot of info.

Sure sounds like a fuel problem. If you have a portable gas tank, use it next time out. If that fixes it, time for new bulb and fuel line all the way from the motor to the tank. If problem persists, you'll know it's in the motor.

If so, could be a number of things - fuel filter and fuel pump come to mind.

My EFI did that exact same thing. Fuel pump was full of crud.

Are your fuel lines approved for Ethanol? If not, then this needs to be changed immediately. I had a similar problem and it was the fuel lines. Ethanol was eating them up. It could also be a coil going out.

Jay, I usually do not use the bulb but I tried it today since the motor would not start.

the fuel filter/ pump screen is most likely full of crud/ particles of disintegrating fuel line.....change the fuel lines from the tank to the engine, including the primer bulb, along with the filters...
