Movin to Memphis!

Hey hey everyone! So I've been kickin' it on terminal leave after nine and a half years in the Navy and just got the word today that I got a job working for Nucor Steel in Memphis! Flew down there early last week for the interview and I got the job offer today! I'm pretty excited. Anybody out there live around the Memphis area? I'm just looking for ideas on where myself and my fiancee' should be looking at living. Also curious on the best places to boat and fish. We've been thinking about looking for a place across the border in MS (looks like I'd be close to some big lakes) but we aren't sure. Anyhoo, I'll stop rambling now, take care everyone, and look for the ol' red and white Allison to be headed down the highway in a few weeks!

Good luck in Memphis. I live about an hour south of there. Plenty of good lake to fish and some nice places around.

Post in MS section, I would think cost of living will be cheaper in south haven, olive branch, ms area, but depends on what side of memphis you work etc.

Lived there, or outside of there, for 5 years. Either move on the east side, (Collierville, Lakeland, Arlington, etc.) or go to MS. DO NOT LIVE in Memphis. Great place to visit and have access to, but not to live in. AutoZone park was great for AAA Baseball games too. You are within 2 hours of some of the best lakes in the world.

No state income tax in tn, I don't know what parts are safe around Memphis in tn part. Southhaven, olive branch, and hernando, are good on the ms side of memphis. Thats about all i know. Im about an hour and half from that area.

I love TN. I havent heard too much good about memphis though. Surely there has to br some decent areas around there though. Find the good schools and that will lead you to the good areas to live in.

I live in olive branch just south of Memphis. It's a nice place to be but collierville or Germantown would be nice too. It all depends on how much you're looking to pay. My advice would be to stay out of the city of Memphis. You will be close to some good lakes. Pick wick is an hour and a half and Kentucky lake a little more. Some really good crappie lakes to the south as well in Sardis and Enid.

Collierville or Germantown if you want to stay in Tennessee for tax purposes or Arlington like others mentioned. You will be within 1 hour to 1.5 hours from Pickwick and just minutes away from the Mississippi river. If you live on the south side of Memphis you will be close to Arkabutla and Sardis.

I am an hour south of Memphis down I55. Pickwick will be close. Arkabutla and Sardis will be closer. Be very careful on Arkabutla.

I would suggest the same as others but also include Tipton county to the north. I moved to t county about 9 years ago and love it. Pretty quiet place and still close to Memphis.
