You guys ready for your electric trucks?

    http://www.ibtimes.com/article...d.htm

Lutz was pushing for electric trains a year ago. Guess one goes where the government sponsored money goes instead of providingproducts people want at a reasonable price isn't a solid business model in America any longer?

I wonder how he feels about the administration giving the Volt technology to China after all the years he spent on it? INSANE!

They keep pushing these electric vehicles, but that energy has to come from somewhere. They want to get rid of coal fired power plants, they don't want to build any new nuclear power plants, in some places our electric grid is already hurting. Something has to give.

Wont be happening anytime soon. GM projected on selling 10,000 Volts last year and sold 7500. I wonder how many were actually "donated". Now these same geniuses *think* they can sell 200,000 units next year ...Good luck.

From what Im told by a friend whose company is working on models for the plug in stations. GE has the bids already. Screw the demand factor. It has nothing to do with it. Follow the money trail. To me its like having cabinet doors and then shopping for the cabinets to match. A/s backwards.

Why would a contractor pay 75K for an electric truck with a range of 40-50 miles? They can buy a bunch of gas for the difference between the price of a basic fleet WT and the price of admission of the VIA.....IE GM.

when electric plug in cars and trucks get efficent and more power plants must be built i will bet you my life savings that the newest plants that will have to be built will burn gasoline !! They will convince us of how efficent they cant produce power with very lil gasoline consumption ! You heard it here first <><

I'm not saying that. If they get the bugs worked out of the batteries, electric will be the way to go. The torque on an electric motor is UNREAL!

I was at the GM Bowling Green Corvette plant 3 weeks ago and they have 14 electric vehicle charging stations that have both a utility supply and solar panels for supply energy. I was told the utility and solar panel supplier installed them for almost next to nothing. I would venture a guess our government funded the project too. For the week I was there one car was pluged in everyday.

in the fact that PV Solar actually isn't a bad option and with the recent price drops due to an over supply of panels and inverters you can actually produce your own electricity on site for about the same cost as the utility company is currently providing it for

and when you factor in tax incentives it is actually cheaper

small scale PV arrays actually are an interesting choice and may be an answer to controling the "demand" loads that our current infrastuture is dealing with

and as a contractor I would consider an electric truck if it fitted my needs

Exactly! Electric cars may save gas, but the electric bills are going to skyrocket for everyone....which isn't fair. It totally screws the guy who has a diesel truck and already pays a high fuel bill at the pump, and also has to pay for high priced electric because all of his neighbors drive electric cars! Plus, money for the DOT has to be made up somewhere, the less gas you buy the less money being put into the pot to pay for bridges, roads, maintenance, etc.; that will lead to a usage fee eventually - the gas tax will be repealed, and you'll have to pay a fee for each mile you log. Makes me want to punch a go-green hippie in the face!

Also, there isn't enough Lithium available to build and support a large fleet of electric cars......the more that are produced, the more the price of Lithium will go up. There's only enough for about 2 billion electric cars, assuming that all known reserves are used exclusively for electric car batteries.

I understand the advantages to the electric car with lower emissions, but until we can develop cheaper electricity, adress the budget crisis that nearly all DOTs are facing, and evolve the technology a little more to reduce lithium consumption, electric cars should be put on the backburner.

I wouldn't go that far...........I think having buildings that use 25-50% of the energy that they once used is a good thing for everyone

It all started with recycling......trash companies struck it rich with that!

"Hey, let's charge more money to people who sort their trash for us and we'll convince them they'll feel wonderful in doing it! If we can sell their sorted trash and make money we'll really get rich, if it costs us money, we'll just dump it the old fashion way and still make money!"

A solar array and batteries with enough wattage to carry an all electric house (which I own), is still cost prohibitive. Plus the life span of the said array and batteries really blows the savings to heck.
