    Nissan Titan owners....

I am in the market for a new/used truck. A local dealer has a 2005 Nissan Titan Crew Cab 4x4 with a 5.6L V8 and a CC33 rear end. It's loaded to the gills and has all the bells and whistles. I don't know allot about the Titans as I have been a Ford owner for the most part. I have a 2006 Nitro 929 that I am going to need to tow with it, the package weighs right around 4500lbs. Something else that concerns me is that it has 315 size tires on it which I know are a few sizes large than stock. Anyone out there towing with a vehicle similar to this?

I have that exact truck except it's an '04, bought it right when they came out. They had the brake/rotor recall shortly after and I needed both rear axle seals replaced around 60,000 miles. Except for that I have only done routine maintenance and the truck has been flawless. I use a WIX filter and Moblie 1 synthetic extended mileage. Only change the oil once a year. I tow a Basscat PIV with it without a problem. The gas mileage averages 14 as my daily driver to/from work. I have absolutey no regrets with my purchase. It currently only has 70,000 miles andI plan on keeping it for a whole lot longer. Let me know if you have any other questions.

That 5.6 is a very strong motor. Should make a nice hauler.

I have a 2004 as well. I too replaced a rear axle seal twice, 34,000 and 65,000 miles. No problems with the truck, just battery, brakes, oil etc. A real strong engine to boot. Also will keep the truck for many more years. Recommend it.

The oversized tires should be a concern, because they will effectively raise the gear ratio (lower rpm), increase load on the transmission, reduce brake effectiveness (higher flywheel effect and less leverage on the increased radius) and reduce towing performance.

There is some chance that the final drive ratios have been changed to correct that, of course, tho the braking efficiency would still be reduced. I would be checking the ratios. There might be a tag on the housings, or you can jack it up and do it the old fashioned way. I would personally shy away from a truck that's been lifted or fit with oversize wheels and tires. Stock stuff usually works just fine, and modified stuff usually causes more problems.

    What he said ^^

Larger tires will also throw your speedometer off and change the driveline geometry - never a good thing.

There is the chance it was modified for off road use. Then you really want to stay away from it.

"my seals went in september, had em replaced for 600... 3 weeks later KABOOM! death slide from 65mph to 0 on the highway. Had to change the boxer shorts. 2500 bucks later whole new rear end assembly in the titan. $38,000 - 12,500 trade later in my 08 cummins with a real differential, no dinky dana 40."

That was not my post but one from NOV 2011 and still nothing from NHTSA and mine locked up in 06.

I know some have had no problems but buying another would be one step away from walking for me.

My dad has an 05 nissan titan le 4x4 4 door. It has 650000 mile on it and has been an awesome truck. He put a programmer on it and it is a super fast truck. The 4:10 gear help also! But the backseat has far more room than my moms suburban. Never had any problems out of it as of yet

Re: Nissan Titan owners.... (Young Gun)

I had an 07 Titan and it was a great truck. I put 54K miles on it with probably 20K pulling either a 203 Champion or my current 198. Didn't have one nickels worth of problem out of it. It was a great truck! The only downfall with the Titan is gas mileage. I know its a full size truck but on my 25 mile commute to work at best I was getting 15.5. My current truck is a 2010 Silverado Z-71 Crew cab with the 6.2 and I can get 17.5 with it on the same trip. I still say though my Titan was probably the best vehicle I've ever owned but my Silverado is my favorite.

    Good luck!

Re: Nissan Titan owners.... (08 198 Champ)

My 2006 titan has been a great truck. The front brake rotors had a recall, and need to be replaced again. The drivers side seats are bad to wear where you slide in and out. I pull a 21ft express with it and can hardly tell its there!

    Just my 2 cents.

I have a 2009 titan with 32000 miles and it`s been a good truck. I tow with it every weekend. Gas milage is not great but with the power of the 5.6 i can deal with the MPG.

I have an 05 I bought new it now has 95k on it. Other than the rotors and a couple other things great truck. I still feel it's the best bang for the buck. Good luck with your choice.

True enough about the speedometer, but if you know how, it's real easy to change the calibration these days. Just a tweek on the computer; the tire shops do that. It would be worth making sure it was correct, so you can accurately check the MPG, at least.

I just bought an 09 crew cab in July, now with 36,000 miles. It's awesome towed my legend alpha 211 from Winnipeg, MB to Kingston, ON and back with ease and still got 13-14 mpg loaded down with everything but the kitchen sink!

Just be careful it's got enough go to get you in trouble with the law!
