    Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence System

Anyone have any feedback on these systems? My two labs have been taking off here recently, and Im thinking about picking one up. It'd be hard to bury a cable right now where the ground is frozen solid, so I think I'd like to go this route. They are pretty big money, but cheaper than losing a pet if they get hit by a car. I tried bidding on one on ebay last night, and got the famous last second outbid by someone using a program. Man doesnt that make me

I have had them for years and works great on my boxer. I put one on each end of the house so she can run the whole yard.

We have had very good luck with ours. One thing to make sure is that you check them often and make sure the battieries in the collars are working. The Pet Safe style makes a low sounding beep as you get close to the border or fence.

We picked ours up from Craigslist for under $100.00 and it came with the collar, the fencing, flags, the main unit. It was a complete system, you may want to check Craiglist.

I have the system with the buried fence and it works well for my Border Collie. I used it for a month before I buried the fence, worked fine like that.

We had the buried one at the other house and the wireless one at the new house. Works great. We set the transmitter up in the downstairs bathroom and it creates about a 90' radius around the house. Me wife did an excellent job of training him with the white flags and collar so he would know the boundaries and what the concsequences were if he crossed. Beep, beep, beep, ZAP! It tingles, I've tried it! We can even let the dog out without the collar and he difinately knows where the boundaries are. You can try and call him from the other side of the radius and he will not go!

Re: Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence System (catchinweeds)

Limited success. I tried to split the fenced yard with the electric wire along the chain link fence on 3 sides and underground up the middle. One of the dogs would climb the chain link and run over a buried wire with ease. The only thing that worked was to run the wire along the chain link fence (not split the yard). She had to stand in the electric field and get shocked in order to climb the chain link.

Had another dog given to us that had been trained with a bark collar. The electric fence had zero effect on her and she escaped my double barrier with ease.

My future parent's in law have that exact system for their lab mix and it works great, dog will not leave the yard. Just don't forget to take the collar off when you take them for a walk, your dog will not be happy once you hit the border.

I've researched that exact system myself, since I have a fenced in back yard but would like the dog to be able to be in the front yard too if I'm working out there. Seemed like a good system, but I can't justify the price since she wouldn't be in the front yard that much.

Bold print above is very important!

    1. Go for a ride with wife & dog. We get in the truck. Dog gets in and wife takes collar off and puts in palm of hand. I drive over boundary, collar goes off, wife screams, I stop fast. She expalins what happens and I .

    2. F-I-L is at house and needs to move car in the driveway. Dog thinks he is going for a ride so he hops into car. F-I-L goes back and forth over boundary and dog is going F&%king nuts. Wife had to yell at father to stop moving, the dod can't take it!

Gotta remember when the clooar is on!!!!!!

Re: Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence System (catchinweeds)

I have it at my house. The 2 dogs I have stay well within the borders and even after taking the collars off, they are leery of going outside the borders. The good thing is that the collars will keep on shocking until they get back within the border. Unlike the wired kind that only shock at the border. The collars flash a light on the collar when the battery is getting low. You have a few days to replace the battery. You can have up to 6 settings on the collar depending on the resistance of the dog to that stimulation. There is a drawback. You should take the collars off if there are going to be thunderstorms. Why? Because if you have a power outage, the collar will not receive a signal and will proceed to shock the heck out of the dog. We were wondering why the dogs suddenly got nervous when a storm came and then we had an outage and found out the hard way. Poor dogs...thinking it was cool... then zappo! Hope this helps out. I get batteries at Tractor Supply, usually much cheaper there. But Lowes is starting to now carry them.

Love mine....a lot cheaper than a fence. I have a beagle and they like to follow their nose....but he stops when he gets close. Been using one for 6 years now

Re: Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence System (catchinweeds)

Had one for years as a cheaper option to building a fence. Worked great 99% of the time, but I swear my labs tested that thing every hour and if it went down (broken wire, electrical storm, etc) they were off to the races. And if one saw something it wanted on the other side, they weighed the cost vs reward and sometimes the cost was worth it for them. I finally stopped using it when they got older and calmed down enough to stay safe.
