    2001 Ranger 205 wth a 225 Yamaha--honest opinion please

Going to look at a 2001 Ranger 205 with a 225 yamaha. The boat is supposed to be immaculate. Very good price. Never rode in a 205 and I have never owned a Yamaha. I need your opinions or facts both good and bad.
    Thanks

I have never been in or around a 205. If the motor is the Yam ox66 225 it is a great motor! I have a 2001 225 ox66 motor and it has been great! Ive had it for 11 years and nothing but maintenance. I would have it checked by a machanic.

I had an 02 205DVS and loved it. Good fast hull not as dry as the 520 and not as wide in the front deck. But an awsome boat. I still wish I would have repowered and kept mine.

As Bradley said get the engine checked. If it checks out and you like the boat go for it. You will not be disappointed.

I own a 205 DVS. Purchased it new in 01'. It has a 225 EFI Merc...absolutely GREAT boat. No cracks, rips or tears anywhere, all of my lids open close without issue, panel switches work, key works, trailer oil hubs never have leaked, axles are not bent ---all the things I read that the "new" ones have problems with---I DONT . I have upgraded electronics and still have the 74# troller. I fish St Clair, and small inland lakes. It's my 3rd Ranger...honestly, I see NO reason to buy another. This ones a keeper . It'll run 70, ride is dry and good. Plenty of storage, lots of rear deck space. I have the front deck extension. This adds even more room to an already large front deck area. Mine is a dual console model as well has a tandem trailer. Some 205's came with a single axle trailer ....IMO, its too heavy of a boat for a single axle. Guaranteed a single axle trailer WILL be overloaded.

Great boat!! I had a hard time not buying one when I bought my 520. They are typically a couple mph faster than the 520's. My OX66 has been rock solid but does eat the gas like all of them from this generation. Put a Hydro-tec Phase kit on that motor and the rig will come to life and perform as well as the new ones.
