    Brp vs. Mech

I'm a little frustrated to find out today that my marina does not recommend to decarbon the motor usiing engine tuner used by spraying thru the throttle bodies but to use the one that you add to your fuel ...They say they see motors blown after people decarbon there motors...Now BRP Says that there product will not harm the motor in anyway but the mechanics say other wise they say they have had way to many motors go just like mine did after being decarboned....This pisses me off the manu recommends you do it and on the other hand the techs say don't to many have come in with just one cylinder burned out just like mine way to often with the same situation just decarboned..So who the hell do i listen to the manufacturer thats says do it every year to keep my engine clean or the techs that say don't do it and so motor builds up with carbon i'm screwed either way i guess..........chris

    Re: Brp vs. Mech (21ssextreme)

4 BRP motors and nearly 2000 hours later and I have yet to decarbon. I have religiously burned good BRP oil though (XD50 or XD100)...

I will say this, I have seen ONE motor blow after a decarb, but it had NEVER been done since 89, and it had sooooooo much around the rings it stuck one..... I decarb mine every year, and NEVER had an issue IF it was done correctly... I personally think what happens is people leave it sitting in the cylinder too long, and not running it after sitting over night, thus not having any oil or lube at all at first start up on the motor..... I have always ran the hell out of mine the morning after the decarb, as I have been instructed too....

How long after the de-carb did the motor let go? Few trips, few hours or a few minutes?
