    Battery Brand ??

Ok guys, I finally went ahead and bought a Bass Pro XPS 5/5/5 onboard charger..but my question is, what brand or kind of batterys do yall recommend..I have a cranking battery of course, and only one trolling battery..from what ive read I can hook the 3dr bank of the charger along with the second bank to my trolling battery... The boat new in 01 came with Interstate batteries..well ive been through about 3 Interstate cranking batterys..and the trolling has held up pretty well, but i figured its time to replace them both..the cranking is shot again..so with my bad luck with Interstate I dont think I want to waste my money on that kind anymore..whats your suggestions? the boat has a 01 Johnson 150 on it..how many cranking amps do i need for that motor, i beleive it has 400 cranking with the junk battery thats in there now..oh but i dont want to spend in the $200.00 range for batterys either..thanks

Jason, I've had pretty decent luck with wht Wally World branded ones and easy exchange when problems occur. I would get the biggest battery I could get for the troller. Most bass boats are limited to group 27's due to available room, how ever if your rig will allow go with the 29or 31 even. You won't regrett it on a single battery system. JMHO

I second the Everstart's at Wally World. I also second the "get the largest ones you can fit in the boat". I had a cranking battery start to go down at Harris Chain's. Just pulled into Wally world and pulled the old battery out and grabbed a cart and changed it out with a new one. I had a little time left on the old one so I got a little off of the new one. Lastly, this all took place at about 10:00 PM on a Friday night. I didn't miss any fishing time by having to leave the lake early on Friday or going back to the lake on Saturday morning.

Re: Battery Brand ?? (Hard Ard)

Thanks gentlemen..So just go with Everstarts from Walmart huh? So should I just go with the 400 cranking amps again for the starting battery or bigger? Are the Everstarts there labeled marine use or are they just regular batteries or are marine batteries the same as regular batteries with just a different label?think that was the longest runon sentence ever..anyway thanks in advance

The biggest (size 31) everstarts are "maxx's They are yellow. It says marine on them, I beleive they are 1100 cranking amps or so. I have 2 for my trolling motor and one for my cranking battery.

Ditto those yellow ones. Any problems they give you new ones. Hard to beat... They are about $65 dollars where I live.

The yellow Everstart MAXX marine batteries from Walmart are 29 series. They are 875MCA and 675 CCA with 205 RC I believe. They are dual purpose batteries. They work well, but I would reccomend the deep cycle Trojans or AC Delcos though. A little more expensive but not much.

    Re: Battery Brand ?? (Bassmeister)

ok guys..i checked walmart and i do beleive i can fit a 29 series Everstart in the trolling battery tray...but my tray for the cranking battery isnt as big..is it possible to secure a larger tray in its place to where it will stay or what ?The measurements for my holder is 10 1/8 by 6 1/2...if not i saw they had an everstart black battery for marine starting that looked like it would fit..it was 600 cranking amps, and the model number was 24MS-6..any good? want to say they are around 47.00 and the yellow trolling batteries were 65.00

The 24 may work for ya, the gurus here are pretty adamant about 100 ca's. I bought a Fleet battery from O'Reillys with 1190ca and 1000cca for around 65.00 for my 225.

I did what i guess i could of done in the start...the manual says minimum of 500cca and 620mca..just didnt know if it was really worth the extra money to buy maybe a 600cca or maybe even a 800caa....it isnt that much more but hey if i can save and there is no real benefit , then i will go with what the manual says..but if there is a benefit let me know

The number of electronics you run off of your cranking battery would affect the need for more CCA's. The more power you draw off your cranking battery with depthfinders, aerators, etc. would affect power needs. Definitely match the minimum recommended.

Hence the reason the Rude Gurus adamantly advise the 1000cca batterys!!!
