Who sells Evinrude lower units? New or re-built?

A friend of mine needs a new lower unit for his 2000 Evinrude FICHT 225. A stump was not kind to his. Anyone know who has a good price on new or rebuilt lower units that have a warranty? If possible he would like to have the H.O. lower unit. His insurance is paying for the work but they want to only replace the case and re-use 3 of his gears in it and put the rest back together. So except for a few gears they are replacing everything anyhow. Seems to us it would be easier and cheaper to just replace the whole thing and not have labor putting it back together. So he's wanting to see if he can find a complete lower unit for the money they are willing to spend if possible. Anyone know where to get a deal on one and how much more the HO lower unit usually costs over the standard?

Do not, I repeat, do not let the insurance company make you re-use the old gears. If your prop was damaged at all, you can be assured that those gears were stressed. I have heard of too many horror stories of re-using gears, only to have them fail a few months down the line.

Good advice Mike. I bent my prop shaft, the insurance company replaced the prop and prop shaft. I ran about 20 miles and the pinion gear broke, and tore up everything else.

That mid tn. marine has some great prices. That's cheaper than the repairs were suppose to be putting the old one back together. I don't know why that mechanic wanted to do it that way to begin with. It has to have a new outer case and all so why try to save 3 gears, that's just ignorant. That's why he's looking for a complete lower unit, he doesn't want something pieced together with some old parts. We know better about not to use used parts also on something like that. Considering that one hit hard enough to bust the midsection.

Hope those gears are spotless. No imprinting at all. Must have just busted the housing, those DI engines just keep going , stumps or not!!

Thanks for all the info guys. Ended up finding a brand new one from a dealer on here at a great price and he's going to get it ordered today. There will be no used gears going back into it now.
