    Ranger Dealer question

The dealer that my boat came thru is Anglers Choice in Martinsville Va. There is a closer Ranger dealer closer to me than Angler Choice( by 2 hours). I have called the closer dealer twice now to have service done and both times they don't want to let me make an appointment to take my boat in and have it checked out. They asked me today to bring it in on Monday and they would try to look at it sometime next week. Last time it was a couple of weeks. On the other hand last time I called Anglers Choice and they had me bring it in the next day and in a couple of hours I was in and out. It is just a 3 hour drive and the issue I have this time is with a brake caliper so I hate to drive that far. My question is. Is this how most of the Ranger dealers are not wanting to make appointments or did I just get lucky and get the dealer that won't make appointments.

In my limited experience, each dealer is different. If it were me....I'd make the drive to Anglers Choice.

Neither in my example are ranger dealers but I have used the same Marina since I bought my boat and my father used it while I grew up. I know the mechanic and the owner well and they treat me fair. My boat has been in and out in a couple of hours and I have had to leave it for a few days.the most important part is they get the joke b done and they don't overcharge.

On the other and, I've been to the local Marina and they quoted me at least a week to have a fuel line changed. Needless to say, I went to my Marina and had it done.

The drive or length of it should not be a riding factor. If you are getting good service where you are going, why change? Although I do understand your predicament this time.

Here's the deal. Warranty work is not always best served by a dealer. Especially in your case where a 3 hour drive on a bad brake could cause more damage or even a breakdown on the road. You have 2 options other than the dealer service, 1. Do it yourself. Just because it is a warranty item doesn't mean that Ranger won't send you the parts you need and you install yourself. 2. Take your trailer to a good trailer shop if you don't feel you can do the job yourself. Yes, you'll have to come out of pocket but it will be done right and fast.

You might just need to bleed the brakes if that one is sticky. I would also check the oil/grease level. I have heard of the slider pins loosening as well, they are supposed to have the medium hard lock tight on them.

I have a 2012 z521. Had the same issue. My dealer told me look to the inside front left on trailer. On ur right if sitting in boat. The brake line goes from rubber to a metal line take the line apart there so u wont have brakes. Should be fine to drive like that. Ranger replaced everything from front to back. Brake caliber and all on all 4

Just throwing this out there but willing to bet if you bought your rig from the closer dealer they would get you in and taken care of.. However being you choose to save some $$ and buy from another dealer i suspect your local dealer is not gonna go out of the way bypassing regular customers.. That is the reason Angler Choice is taking so good of care of you.. You purchased from them and they are gonna jump you in line being you are traveling in..

    Just my 2 cents..

You might be right but my take on it is the Anglers Choice is just a far superior dealer.

    ok couple of things here

I am glad you are getting the sticking caliper taken care of.

Lots of info here on BBC concerning dealers....you have to remember that dealers are humans and thus come packed with all our foibles. With that said, I bet the business model that Ranger promulgates to the dealers does not explicitly say to be nice to others that bought a boat elsewhere, but the work on any Ranger boat is. However, we have all heard of stories of preferred work for boats bought at a local place....they did not say they won't help you just you get to start at the back of the line.

I will be honest. I prefer to do my own work (warranty or otherwise) on my boat as I know the quality level I am capable of achieving. I also think it is freaking fantastic that ranger will send ME the warranty parts so I can do it myself and all I have to do is send the failed parts back..I LOVE that business model!!!!! Saves me the tow, the leaving the boat outside, and in general MUCH more convenient for me to get the failed thing fixed.

Yep. Try calling the factory to send you warranty parts for your car or truck.... Ranger does business the way I would do if if I were in their shoes...or at least I hope I would!
