    300 hpdi cold starting

When it's cold out my motor wont start unless I depress the hotfoot once and let off and sometimes I will have to press and feather the hot foot so it will start and run. it seems to not be getting fuel when first starting and after that it will start immediately.
I am sure that something is wrong but what could it be?

Re: 300 hpdi cold starting (brokejeep)

Mine did this when I 1st bought it. Took it in and they adjusted the linkage. Been fine since. Make sure you prime your ball before you crank it. Seems to make a big difference in mine.

SOUND LIKE THE THROTTLE BODY IS DIRTY AND NOT LETTING ENOUGH AIR THROUGH ON COLD START UP

Its possible that your TPS is out of adjustment but the computer especially the 16 bit (pre-2006) model is very hard to start in cold weather. It sometimes requires letting it totally warm up before it will go into gear and will stay running.

Wayne, can the 16 bit be swapped out for the new post 2006? Cost?Any other gains?

You have to change the main engine harness as well. There are some advantages like better starting and idling but not in top end performances.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the only way for these engines to warm up properly is if the engine is in gear running on all 6 cylinders? How can it totally warm up before putting it in gear if it is only running on 4 cylinders when idling in neutral?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying?? THe engine will need to warm up enough for the ECU to bring the warmup mode (temp) to lower idle and timing to continue idling properly when you put it in gear. Yes it is true that it only runs on 4 cylinders while in neutral but it still will make heat with 4 cyl.

I'm having some trouble with this, but more since I upgraded the throttle body. I suspect the TPS may be a little off. What is the specification on this?
