    Phase 2???

I have a 99 vmax 150, the pase 2 includes reeds, reed plate, heads, tuner, and solid mounts for a gain of 50-60hp.
If the heads give you a 15-25hp gain and the tuner gives you a 8-12hp gain, for a total of 23-37hp. Do the reeds really make that big of a difference? 13-37hp??

I am wanting to add a little spark to my motor and probably going to buy the heads $450, or the heads and tuner for about $700. The P2 kit cost $2100 and I don't see how it would be worth the extra money for the reeds package and solid mounts.

Someone please help me out!! Should I do the heads and reeds?

    Re: Phase 2??? (MUSKIE08)

Thanks, I guess the gaskets are kinda pricey. I'm gonna talk to my mechanic and see what parts he suggests.
Anyone have just the heads or phase 1 on a 150? If so are you happy with it? (of course everyone wants a little more) Thanks!

Not sure, I guess drill the carb jets? I don't understand how they can sell that in a kit, I guess you have to send them your carbs and they send you the drilled ones in return, like with the heads.

    Salty dog

My previous rig (2000 Zx200 with V-max 200hp) had HT heads-reeds-tuner...it ran 74+ and walked away from or up with near every 225...which was my goal...remember 89 octane and 4 hours to pull the head...rest is ALL GOOD...expect prop pitch to jump...mine was 25 to 27...
    I liked the whole deal!

With your lighter hull you should be faster than all 175s and many of the slower 200s...
My 2 cents...Wayne and Matt W can fill in any other blanks....

    i don't think you will gain 50 -60hp w/ phase 2. it was a phase 3 that gave me 60hp gain

When i called ht asking them about power increases they said the phase two would be 50-60 hp also on a 2006 150 carb.

    Re: Phase 2??? (MUSKIE08)

I had a 95 Pro V 150 that had the phase 2 on it and I had the phase 3 added. It makes a big difference. I ran it on a 191 champion and it ran with any 200 on the same boat. Get as much as you can !!!!!!!!!

You will take a 170mm drill bit and drill the fuel jets out to a larger size. Keeps the mota from going lean followed by an expensive clattering sound.

    Re: Phase 2??? (87gtNOS)

Yes that is the main fuel jets I had the complete phase III done on my 2.6 200 and it was well worth it get as much as you can done to it or you will always be wonderin what if? I had mine done in different stages and you dont realize the whole improvement until you get the whoe thing done even the last phase with the porting and balancing makes the biggest difference of all. I now have 266 hp at 6000 rpm and great tourque I spin a 27 tempest to 6300 rpm easily. The 150 should make the same HP with all the mods and the bigger carbs. Just change the lower unit to get the 1.86 gears. My jets were opened up to 180 for my Adjustments and if you dont open up the jets you will burn a hole in a piston. I have one that did just that. The best ting to do is send it to HT and have them dyno tune it and thet will jet it perfectly for you there and break it in also it is money well spent and they will stand berhind what they build for you. I also have the cross drilled intake and lightweight flywheel. Basically everything possible. I love it and it is wot=rth every penny spent if you pay them to do it because they will stand behind it.

    Re: Phase 2??? (87gtNOS)

We have to drill the main fuel jet 170mm because the factory doen't make that size. 168mm is the closest but doesn't cut it. 174mm is the next largest factory jet but is too rich. Keep in mind..........changing jets without mods only makes the engine run poorly and does not add HP. The 170mm is the best setup for this model and it will vary from model to model. If you have questions about your model please call Jon, Mat, or myself.

Hey Wayne, to save making a new thread....I called Greg (I think your parts guy today) and was looking for 174 mains for my 97 newer style carbs with the mains inside the bowls....you have only some 154's in that style.

So I would like to clarify drilling the mains to 1.7mm to get 170 size? Are these jets sized by the mm? Like 160 is 1.6mm? etc?

Also, are you adding fuel anywhere else?

    Thanks

And Gamblerjewell, what year is your 200? Looks like a good runner!!
