    Shifter/cable broke, help...

Boat: 97 champ 186, 99 ficht 175 Went out yesterday and when I shifted into reverse, something snapped and would not shift anymore. I'm real sure it snapped in the throttle handle area. Gonna need some help here. Any tips or clues on fixing this. I guess you could call this the flush mount shifter. This looks like a real pain getting at this. A little background here, this thing shifted hard for a long time. The gas part still works. I'm a long way from a dealer and on a budget. I got access to parts online, have tools and am willing to get dirty. I'm working the next 5 days so any help here will really be appreciated!! everyone here has Saved me time and $$$ before, I need help!

    Re: Shifter/cable broke, help... (capticeman)

spent an hour yesterday taking the shifter apart. very Ugly. my guess is this was all installed before the boat was put together. The main part with the cables attached is still in there and going no where. If I'm goning to pull this off I'm gonna have to jigsaw a bigger hole to get at the thing. probably have a metal plate made to cover it up and use as a hatch. I'm not happy. really sick of fixing things on this thing. got alot of big tournaments this year and Don't need a break down during a BFL or everstart. Any help??

Not sure on the Champ but you can (on most boats) pull the box out under the dash to replace the cable.

Rusty, thanks... I got everthing off yesterday(handle) and pulled but didn't budge much. lot of stuff in the way. Lot of wires in the way. But for you rusty, tommorrow i'll try again. gonna pull the ignition switch and the main dash panel for more room. I just put everything back together today but i'm gettting pretty good at taking stuff apart! If I can get some help I'll pull real hard! this will be my last try. After this, its traded in broken...
Rusty, If I can get this thing out, unhook cables, what is the part # of the shifting box thing. white plastic housing, some metal with a big gear sticking out.
Also any info where to order would be helpful. thanks...
