    prop or prop shaft?

A year or so ago I had an issue where one day I realized my prop was rubbing the lower case when you spin it. I took it to the dealer and under warranty they did bearings, shaft and all sorts of crap...even a new 25T1 prop.

Well today it happened again it seems. Again w/ a yamaha prop on, a 2 piece washer on the prop, and it appears the seal at the end of the shaft is broken and thick grease is coming out and the prop now rubs. (Heat bent maybe?!) What is goin on here? No sign of damage to prop or motor outside when you spin the prop it barely scrubs the housing. I put my 25M on w/ a one piece thrust washer and it wont even spin.
    Confused, any ideas?!

When you pull on the prop shaft does it move more than about 1/16 inch? If it does check the bolts on carrier housing. Make sure they are tight, replace seal, put new washer on and see if that helps. These types of problems are caused buy not tightening the prop nut enough. The thrust washer spins and wears out prematurely.

Its not moving, seems very tight.
The weird thing is I know I tightened the prop nut very tight, When lining up the hole for the cotter pin I actually tighten it more, and never loosen it to see the hole.

If I replace the seam, will that keep the prop shaft straight and fix the issue w/ it rubbing?!

If the prop shaft isnt bent I dont see why it shouldnt be fine. Clean up the shaft with some fine sand paper where the thrust washer sits. Put a light coat of grease on a new washer and retighten the prop nut againt after first outing. You proly need to change the gear lube also.

This exact same thing happened to me. I tightened the hell out of the prop nut because it would keep loosening up no matter how tight I had in the morjning. Still had the thrust washer do the same thing yours is doing. Check to be sure that the bevel is not scoared or worn out on the prop shaft from the thrust washer spinning on it. If it is, then your problem with the prop nut not staying tight is because the bevel is worn down. As it wears, the prop moves further back towards the gearcase, and as a result the prop is not tight anymore between the thrust washer in the back and the prop nut in the front. Trust me, I went through the same issue. As a result, I had to replace prop shaft, and everything that has to be replaced as a result of replacing the propshaft. $$$$$$ Keep me updated.

Thrust washer seized to the prop from tihtent=ing to remove slack. They say somehow the lower unit is bad and i kept creating they loose prop issue....
Regardless, a warranty lower unit and everything to the cotter pin will be replaced. Gotta love warranties.
