    Tilt and trim problems

I have a 2008 hpdi 3.1. Last march yamaha replaced my whole tilt and trim unit cause the cylinder rods kept mushrooming out on the ends and tearing up the seals. Well here we are again and same problem. Been putting grease on the ends too. Anybody else having this problem? I know mercury has like a roller on the end o of the shafts to prevent this. I think they need to make it out of better material.

Re: Tilt and trim problems (skeeterz25)

I just had problems with seals, had to polish shaft's and change seals again, findly got it to stop leaking by changing the cylinder cap ($70.00)and bushings on the tilt mount area by the stearing cylinder $20.00 a peace for bushing.
not sure on the shaft mushrooming but could be your nylon bushing wore making your whole motor moving around on them.
trim your motor almost all the way up and then grab your lower unit and pick up on it and look at the upper mount where it swings onby grease zerts and see if there alot of slack in it.could be your problem.nylon bushings, not to hard to change just need a come along to hold motor up,and take stearing ram off.
