Teleflex might fix or waranty the tach if it's bad.

Check all the connections on the back and make sure they are good. There is a rotary switch on the back that has little marks around it such as "6P", "12P", etc. Turn that switch back and forth a couple of times but make sure you put it back where it was originally.

There is a way to test one with a volt meter but I don't remember the exact numbers you are supposed to see. Basically you have a hot wire, which should get 12v anytime the key is on, a ground, and a sender wire. The voltage at the sender will vary with RPM of the motor via the stator and rectifier. Teleflex used to have the testing procedure on their site but I don't know if it is still there. Check the wires first and turn the switch back and forth and see if that clears it up.
