    Winterizing HPDI

What is the better fuel stabilizer for winter storage, seafoam or stabil (ethanol formula)? Can they be mixed? Also, can seafoam be used to lubricate/protect the cylinders for winter by spraying it directly into them instead of using motor oil?

    Re: Winterizing HPDI (rickZX225)

I personally use stabil ethanol formula. Seafoam doesnot protect or lubricate the cylinders. Don't use vehicle motor oil in a 2stroke as it will not burn next spring and make starting much harder. Heres how I professionally winterize all 2-stroke Yamahas, HPDI's included, 2-stroke Carbed Mercury/Mariners ( DO NOT USE THIS METHOD FOR OPTIMAX or EFI motors), and 2-stroke Carbed Johnson/Evinrude:

    1. Add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, peferably before the last trip of the season. Otherwise run the motor on muffs and a hose for 15-20 minutes to make sure the conditioned fuel gets to the injectors.

    2. As the motor is running spray a fogging oil such as Evinrude/Johnson Fogging oil or Stabil Fogging oil into the throttle bodys, the motor will start to smoke real bad. Keep spraying until the motor stalls or the can is empty and shut the motor off.

    3. Drain the gearcase and fill with fresh gearlube.

    4. Grease any fittings.

Thats all there is to it.
