OX66 idle speed issue.

2004 250hp OX66. When I first start up, it seems to idle too fast.. About 1100 rpm. Clunks pretty hard when going into gear. After it warms up, then it idles right at 750 in gear. If I turn the idle screw down to where it idles good at startup, then after it warms up, it idles at about 500 rpm in gear and chugs a little. Have to stay on the throttle to keep rpms up. High idle is primarily on on first start-up and really bad when the weather is colder. Makes a little hard to get around in the morning when idled up at tournament launch. Any suggestions on where to start looking. Manual does not have a troubleshooting tree for this issue.

Mine does the same thing, so I let mine warm up some first. I thought about disconecting the "N" safety switch and start it in gear.

Russ, it's doing just what it's supposed to do. I always let it warm up until it kicks down the idle before I do anything. I even try not to put it in gear, sometimes using the TM to get around until all is warm.

That cannot happen around here during my tournaments. If I launch in the Ohio river with river current and boats behind me, I have to be able to get it started and in gear asap. Also very small ramps, so sitting on the trailer waiting to warm up is not an option. I do not remember it being this bad before, just started doing this this year.
