I have a 1999 Ox66 250 25". I have been thinking of going to an HPDI 250 and have a lead on a VMAX 250 HPDI 20". I am thinking that because the VMAX has the factory low water pickup that I'll be able to get away using a 20" motor instead of a 25". Any thoughts on this? Also, what rigging would need to change to go from Ox66 to HPDI or is it plug and play?
Anyone ever go from a 25" motor with side water inlets to a 20" VMAX with nose inlets? Does the low water pickup make up the 5" difference?
What boat are you running? If it's something with a higher transom, you'll probably have a difficult time getting the 20" shaft low enough to run well.
The boat is a Warlock. Narrow beam with a 24 degree bottom. The boat has a fixed setback bracket of 20" and the 25" motor is set as high as it can be.
