    Performance

I posted a while ago about our Johnson 150 being "peaked". Had it out for the first time since then for a good run. It turns a 25 pitch Renegade upto 5400 with 2 people with no problem, maybe 45 seconds to spool up from 3000 to 5400. Really good midrange. With out a jackplate and two big people, she was still winding up when I shut it down. The max rpms I think are 5500, so I'm thinking that unfortunately, a new prop might be in order when I start to fish solo more, or get a jackplate. Very happy Johnson owner!

Is the max RPMS still around 5500 to be safe?

5500 is your range, all props are different. But if she was still climbing when you shut her down, you will need to know how much moer is in the prop. It won't hurt to give her a punch to 5900 or so to get a good read on the prop. You will not do this normally but can do it just to get a feel of what your next prop will be. Your regular top end should be in the 5500 rpm range.

Do you guys think his RPMs will drop to an acceptable level once the water begins to warm? Just a thought....

    Re: Performance (MigAz)

Always a possibility. Warm and cold water produces different performance factors. Water density, engine temp, overall vroom factor. Cool water usually allows the engine to reduce prop slip, but increases drag coefficient. Cool water is more dense. But cool water improves on engine performance internally, along with engine temp. So there you could have some canceling out on the numbers. Warm water allows the drag coefficient to decrease but lets the prms increase. So we could go either way.
