    Yamaha Fuel Trouble

My fishing partner has a 1999 Yamaha V Max 225 (V225TLRX). When started the first time for the day it starts perfect. Or if you fish for more than a hour or so it will start perfect again. It's when you shut it down and restart within an hour that there is a problem. You have to get in the hot foot some to allow air in the motor for it to start and then it smokes to beat hell. The problem is raw fuel is loading the motor when it sits for a short time. I suspect that after an hour or so the excess fuel evaporates which allows it start good again. I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to the motor and in runs up to 35 psi. Then the fuel pump shuts off and the pressure drops about 10 psi every minute. I'm leaning towards changing the fuel pressure regulator. Has anyone else had this trouble and what did you do to fix it?
Is it possible to spend too much time on the water?

I've had the exact same problem with my 200. Its the low pressure fuel pumps, there should be three of them. You can test each one, by unbolting all three and pump fuel bulb until tight if fuel leaks out the back of one or all there is your problem. Pretty cheap and easy fix even for the mechanically less inclined like myself. They run around $35 on boats.net.
