Here it goes. I have gotten rid of my mercury and I have a good deal with a 06 Yamaha HPDI 250. Its not the VMax. What is the difference between the regular HPDI and the Vmax. The HPDI has a 20 in shaft. Thanks for the help

If it's not a Vmax then it's probably a 4 stroke as they are also referred to as HPDI

The compression ratio is a little more on the non v-max HPDI, I think the gear ratio is 1.81 on the non v-max HPDI as well.. My catalog is not showing the 20 in LU offered... It does show a 25 and a 30 inch LU.. The v-max comes only on the 20 inch LU.
Both motors were new in 2003
PS: The 4 strokes are not considered an HPDI....

The dealer i am getting it from put a vmax shaft on it. I am picking it up tomorrow. I can't wait to see the difference my boat will be from 200 to a 250
What motor did the LU come from? They have different gear ratios.

He ordered a vmax lower. The gears will be vmax gears but all the other will be HDPI. He told me all the parts are the same and line up. The guy that helped me get the deal has the HDPI motor on a vmax. I guess they both have the same bolt patterns. I am not a mechanic, but these guys do it with all the motors they buy.
Yes.. The bolts line up... But different gear ratios are offered in the 200-300 v-max.. Makes a difference in prop choices.

I had a 2 stroke 200 just like that one in the picture. I was told it was the salt water version?? It seemed to be a little slower than my friends with Vmax's but I sure got good gas mileage.
