    Etec Question

What is the gear ratio on the lightning gearcase on a 06 225HO? Trying to get some slippage numbers figured out, along with some speeds.....My thing is, I ran 72.5 at 5200 turning a 28 Raker2, then yesterday turned that thing to 5500 but didn't have my GPS on. Just trying to figure out roughly how fast I was going. Oh, I had 50 gals of fuel onboard, a passenger, and full fishing load and didn't have her trimmed or have the gas all the way down either....

If it is 1.86, that comes to 5.5% slip figuring the 28 Raker2 as a 29 since it is cupped. That sounds a little low, and that puts my 5500 at 76.7, wow....I haven't even adjusted the jackplate or tweaked anything on the prop yet....

Judging by the way she handled yesterday, the motor is still way low and by my guess, when I drop my passenger and run the fuel down a bit to play, the 28 will be too small....

The best thing, to me, I fished with my dad yesterday. When we left the ramp, a tourney was launching at the same time. I took off, and made a run of about 5 miles. In that time, I never went over 5200 and ran down every single boat that launched ahead of me. You could see it, soooo funny. The drivers would be hunched over, trimmed to the max, and I'd just go cruisin by.... Then my dad put a 4000rpm rule on the boat while he was in it.... We fished one spot, and hit a sandbar idling out....After that I ran it up to 5500, told him I had to clean the thermostats out... He was but I was ...

It's 1.86:1, Grant. I have the same unit. I would continue to run it where you are at right now. Numbers look good when at 5500 RPM. I don't think I would run it under that, though.

My thing, Miguel, is I have yet to really air the boat out. I still had some travel left in the pedal and you could tell the hull really wanted a tad more trim. I just didn't want to scare my dad too much and have him not go out again. I might take her out this weekend and see how high it will turn that 28. It's still in double oil mode too...I could have turned it more than 5500, but heck, I stayed at 4000 most of the day. 2 trips on about 10gals of fuel, can't beat that!

I'd hang with the 28. Although I have seen 2 boats with 30 pitch props ,but this is on 20' w 12"set back. The boats were bare bones. You need the 28 when your fully loaded, as you use the fuel up and fishing by yourself, you could back off that throttle just a bit. I know it's hard, but it's cheaper for sure!!! Those E-tecs just want to turn into birds and fly away don't they? Man, when they hit they're harmonic, the just sail on top soooo smoothe.

Grant, I've got the same boat , motor, and prop. I've seen 77.8 gps. Guess the conditions were just right cause I've only seen this twice. I've seen your picture though. I'm pretty sure I have about 150 pounds on you. Yours should run faster.
