250 HPDI Trim piston leaking on port side. Anyone else had issues or have ideas?

I am fortunate enought to be able to fish most of the winter so I store my motor down with no transom saver so that the water can drain out. I started noticing a small leak around the port side trim cylinder that was very minimal. Had my spring maint. done recently and the mechanic replaced the o-ring on cap and tightened up with a spanner wrench and said that should fix it.

Now it is very slowly leaking and appears to come from around the piston. I wiped it down good and it didnt leak for 4 days then all of a sudden today there was a small bit of trim fluid. Seems to leak at odd and inconsistent times. I have heard that once they start leaking the whole thing needs to be replaced. Could this be from storing in the down position this winter?? Should I take to dealer to see about getting it replaced? Thanks for your time!

Just had the exact same problem with mine. Always store my motor in the down position over the winter. This year found a small amount leaking around one trim rod. Called the dealer and he said it would be best to replace all the O rings and seals on the whole trim unit not just one as it's hard to tell which one is leaking. He told me if I ran it that way and it got worse water might get in and create bigger problems later, so off to the shop.He called last night and said it was finished $200.00 for everything. Can't complain the motor is 11 years old and this is the first time in the shop.

Thanks for the response. My motor us under warranty still so it wont cost me anything but I just cant figure out when it is leaking. Some days it will sit for a week and not leak then somedays it will leak after an hour. Some days it will leak while trailering and others not a drop.

Guess I better get it to the shop. Water just got in the low 60's here! Not good timing at all!

They had mine done in a day. I'm leaving friday for Guntersville for a 2 day Championship next week. Can't wait to enjoy some of those nice days Alabama is having right now. Heard the big fish are really startint to move up there.
