Prop & Thrust Washer issues HPDI

I posted to a reply from another topic dealing with this. Just looking for more information.....

Prop has cut into my bearing carrier due to excess movement in prop. I always ck it before and after I have been out.....every couple of trips it would get loose. Dealer told me it was normal & just keep it tightened. There is a service bulletin out for the wrong thrust washer and prop being installed on the HPDI's.

Dealer claims mine is not covered under bulletin though. I still think this is a warranty issue. I have always owned Evinrudes and anything that came up on the lower unit it was always covered under warranty as long as the motor still had it. I guess Yamaha is about to have a battle coming there way.

    Anyone seen this?

I just had mine fixed for this issue. Everything was covered.

If you are in doubt call Yamaha and ask them. I had a Yamaha prop sling a blade, I was told by someone on BBC that it should be warranty covered and should have my propshaft checked, I inquired about this at a local dealer. I was told they would charge me their $90 minimum to check it and it was not bent. The parts guy told me to call the 800 number (big mistake on his part) about the prop. I called like I was told. First thing the rep asked is if I had spoke to a dealer, "yeah, they told me to call you". Shoot, that rep was about furious . He asked for the name of the person I spoke with at the dealer, then he called and gave them hell. I also asked about the labor for checking the shaft, he was blown away that the dealer didnt know the proper procedure to handle my issue.

I had someone tell me that there is a new two piece washer out. I guess they are wanting the lower unit to go out???

Mine went out over the weekend too along with the exhaust tuner that attaches to the manifold. My rep told me everything was under warranty except the thrust washer. How can they not consider that a warranty issue? My dealer also told me it was from running in the sand.

Had it in today. They took pictures of where the prop has cut into the bearing carrier. Hope to find out something soon. The service bulletin has the two-piece washer and a new prop listed to fix the problem.

I had a similar issue last year with my HPDI. I caught it before it ate into the bearing, but it was ito the hub.

I didn't want to get raped by my local dealer after I asked about the price. So i called out to Steve's Custom Props at Lake Fork. He has a solid stainless one for $40.
