    Fuel filter question

Well, I waited a little too long to replace the gray mercury fuel hose on my 05 225 HPDI. I had some rpm loss problems this past weekend and it acted like a lack of fuel so I got the parts and replaced the gray line but my dealer didn't have a bulb so I reused the existing bulb. When I cut into the fuel line the liner was badly deteriorated. I checked the paper filter and bowl, the filter seems ok but there were several pieces of the liner in the bowl. I blew them out then pumped fuel into the bowl several times and dumped it. The first couple of times there were pieces in the bowl but then it was clean the last several times. I am afraid there may still be pieces in the old bulb.

My questions are, did any of the smaller pieces get past the paper filter and go to the next one and also should I run the engine some (not wot) to get the rest of it out of the bulb before I replace the paper filter?? I will check the next filter in line but I may wait until after tomorrow's fishing trip since it will involve very little on plane running and I think I might be able to get the rest of the stuff to come on through to the filter bowl.

I wanna go fishin but I don't wanna pop something.

Don\'t be in such a hurry, after retirement there\'s only one big event left in your life.

Man that is a loaded question. I would advise you to go by your own instincts. I would make sure the fuel system is 100% before I burn a piston for lack of fuel.

    Re: Fuel filter question (rangerguy)

Man I just went through some of the same stuff with my 03 250 HPDI. make sureyou have or do change your high press. filter just past the VST tank. I think you'll find the power loss is from your fuel injectors needing cleaning and probably calibrating. I'd get it done ASAP. Mine started idling rough and within 2 to 3 hours I lost power and the culprit was a lost cylinder. Is your 05 still under warranty. If it is I'd take it to the shop and let them run a compression check. Don't put it off. Time is Money, trust me. I found out. Good luck.
