94 johnson 200 venom slow start up.

I love my stratos but my 200 venom has been acting up. It won't get on plane unless I let it idle for around 15 minutes or more. With today's gas prices, I burn 1/4 tank before I can push the motor to over 2500 RPMs. Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks

    Marc

The fuel pressure may be getting weak. You also need to check the temp to see if it is getting warmed up . If it is slow to build fuel pressure, the engine tends to run out of fuel . Check the timiong roller. make sure it is all there. If the engine is getting all of these. You may be dealing with engine wear. Run the compression, check the cylinder walls. Make sure the fuel is new!!! Is the engine exibiting signs of over oiling? If it is ,look for air leaks in the fuel system. The next time you run it if all these are o.k. Punch the choke on take off, when it boggs. This will either slow the take off or increase it. If it slows it, it's getting fuel, if it increases it, get a carb job.

Might also check the t-stats . They might be letting the motor not warm up as quickly as possiable causing some hesitation....

thank you very much for the postings. I already replaced the thermostats last year and we checked the compression and they all read 100%. Fuel is fairly recent and it did this all last fishing season. I just took it out after running carb cleaner in all the carbs. It stayed at 2000 rpm for about 10 minutes full throttle, then for whatever reason, it jumped on plain and ran fine after that. This is weird. It seemed not to take as long this time to warm up or ever its needs to jump on plain. Do you think the carbs just need cleaned or replaced?

You may have a float bowl sticking causing the problems, pull the carbs and get the rebuild kits and go through them. Clean the bowls with carb cleaner and set the levels to spec. Do the sync n link and you'll be good to go.
