Have a 200 hpdi a 2005 year model. Ran 28 gallons thru motor and burned a little over 1 gallon of oil. Shouldn't ratio be around 40:1 ? Anyone else have this problem with a hpdi and if so what was done to correct it?![]()

For the HPDI that is about right. Very high oil consumption for these motors.

Read--They do smoke.

Mike you would think that it would put out a smoke screen but they don't.
If my motor burned that much, it would be just like double oiling... Talk about smoke... That link said little smoke... Thats normal...

that high oil ratio is at 4-5k rpms, so your not gunna notice smoke cause your running down the lake, most people that notice high oil consumption steadily run in this rpm range, this is the range where they were having problems with hpdi's popping! thus the increased oiling![]()
Me and dad's 04 250 HPDI on our bayboat burns a lot more oil than the ole 88 Rude on the bassboat. We're having to bring an extra gallon of oil every time we go b/c when the tank gets a lil below 1/3 full we get an alarm.![]()
Sounds like your oil linkage on the motor may be out of adjustment. That much oil is pretty much max flow. Can you check the oil linkage cam and especially the white plastic "nut" on the end of the arm (the one with the hole in the end that mates to the cam). I bet you find the plastic "nut" is cracked. Too much oil will foul the engine.
