I had my boat out on the lake today and ran into a problem. At around 4500 rpms it seems to lug on me and loose a bit of power and then kick back in. But then it doesnt seem to want to get to WOT and top speed either. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Nothing else seems to be wrong?
I had a similar problem a year ago. Removed the O2 sensor, cleaned out the sniffer hole and sensor, replaced the gasket and it fixed that problem.
Buzz more than likley nailed it but do yourself a favor and have the compression checked. Thats just how mine acted before it blew up. Maybe if a guy can catch the problem before it gets to piston failure it wouldnt cost so much to fix.
Complete the o2 sensor TESTS in the sticky before you do anything. Then you KNOW if that is the problem. After that you should still clean it anyway but at least you know if the problem is or is not there.
Also check your low pressure fuel pumps (see that sticky) and plug caps. Clean VST too.
If you keep running like you are you WILL blow your motor.
