reinstalling lower unit on 250 HPDI

Anyone out there that can help with a lower unit reinstall? I brought my LU to a marina for a new prop shaft. When I tried to put it back on the motor, it does not shift cleanly every time into either forward or reverse. It seems to hang up until I move the prop position a little by hand. What I did so far is shift the boat throttle into forward and then move the small shift spline on the LU into forward then reinstall. As I said, it is not shifting cleanly every time. Did they do something wrong in the marina or am I doing something wrong. At this time, I am leaning toward the marina messing it up.

Put your boat shifter in netural and then put the little shifter spline in netural on the LU and then install the LU back on the motor. This way you are sure all the shift points are lined up and go from there.

I called the marina and they said how it is acting is normal. I just don't remember that being normal for the last five years. Thanks. I guess I will find out on the water. It will either work or it will be a real short tournament/year.
