    Yamaha Lower Unit

Just replaced the water pump on my 200 hp VMax Series 1, got the lower unit back on and the propshaft doesn't ratchet when turning the prop by hand with the gearshift in forward. It feels like it is going into forward and reverse ok, but I'm leery about trying it out. I left both the lower unit and the shift lever in N until it was back together. I'm sure it would ratchet before I pulled it.

If you were a spline off on the shift shaft either way it would not have a clean neutral. It would click or be half in gear. If you have a clean neutral and it shifts each way you got it right. Most Yamahas dont ratchet like a Mercury gearcase.

Thanks !! That's what I thought!! We'll see how it works when I get it out on the water.
