    Revoving Fuel strainer

I am replacing the fuel strainer on my 2003 VMAX 150 hpdi. I understand the process is as follows to remove the "Not So Quick Disconnect" fitting. The silver piece that connects to the strainer.

    1) Slide the collar up to the filter
    2) depress the black ring that is exposed when you do step 1
    3) pull the filter out of the fitting.

I am stuck on step 1. I have been trying to pry the collar to expose the black ring. I can spin the collar, and can get it to move about 1/16 of an inch. I have gotten to the point that I am mauling the fitting by trying to pry the fitting to the filter .

Can you help me with a handy trick to free up the collar and move it to the filter to expose the black ring.

    Thanks in advance,

    BANG

I was stuck as well this thing is like a Chinese puzzle box

    Here you go!

First there are three parts to the connector 1st-Black Collar 2nd-Metal Collar 3rd-The Body of the connector

It is best to have a friend there to help because this really should be done with at least 3 hands

Step 1 Push the Body “left” (Tight to the strainer) HOLD IN PLACE WITH PRESSURE

Step 2 Push the metal collar “Right” (Close the gap between the body and metal collar)

Step 3 Now while continuing to hold the body tight to the strainer and the metal collar tight to the body (Do this with one hand) use a small flathead screwdriver to push the black collar “right” (up under the metal collar) HOLD IN PLACE -

NOTE: if it takes more then a small amount of pressure to push the black collar up under the metal collar you failed in step 1 or 2

Step 4 have a friend then pull the strainer “Left” out of the connector or if your alone hole the black collar under the metal collar and the metal collar tight to the body and pull “right” sliding the whole thing off the neck of the strainer

    Good advice !

I changed mine the other night. Having someone pull the filter out while you hold everything together makes this much easier. I'm not sure why yamaha didn't use a quick connect on both ends of the filter.
