Alot of guys use large tubs and submerge the whole lower unit. Just make sure you get the water level ABOVE the water pump, or you'll burn up the pump.....don't ask me how I know.

You can run your motor on the flusher hose. Only run it to 1500 rpms though. I have done this for years and I have both a water pressure and temp gauge that show me all is good. Don't waste your $100.

You have a fitting on the port side of motor below the motor cover that you can hook a water hose to and flush it that way.You dont really have to start the motor just turn the water full blast and it will do the rest.

I have that flush adapter it sucks. If I try to run the motor with it alone, the motor will overheat. When I run the motor I use two hoses. One to the lower unit flush adapter and the other hose to the hose adapter flush on the lower side of the cowling. I think I paid $60 or $80 from boats.net. I have heard the tub works well also.

You should be able to just run the hose to the adapter below the cowling and idle the motor, and no need to rev the motor when flushing.

Right on the passenger side where the cowling gets smaller is a threaded hose fitting and you can see the grey hose connected to it. Unscrew it and screw your hose to it. You wont overheat the motor. Been doing it for years.

I don't like to run on just the cowling adapter. Seems to me the impeller won't get proper water, since the impeller pumps water up and when you hook to the cowling adapter your putting water down from the top to the impeller while it is trying to pump up. That is why I use two hoses one on lower to insure the impeller gets enough water and the other to keep enough water to the block.
I think in the Yamaha owners manual it says not to run the motor on the cowling adapter. But I know many people do it.

It depends what you want to do.If your just flushing there is no need to start the motor. If you need to start the motor than i would agree that it would be a safe move to do both but not a must as lond as you idle only.

Hey, guy's thank's for all the replies. i did hook up the hose and turned the water on full blast, it took about a minute or 2 and water vwas coming out of all the right places, did see some dirty water at first and then ran clear, fired her up and everything was good.... thank's again. i would agree that the water should come from the bottom, that makes perfect sence!!!!, ill keep looking for a steal on ebay for one of those low water pick up flusher's for this Yamaha 250.. thank's again to all!!!!!!!
