You need to check for air leaks in the fuel system first. Air leaks cause the pump to overstroke, using more oil,if no air leaks are found, replace the pump and premix for at leaste the first tank to make sure the oil pump is working.

What he said, but at Idle the VRO/OMS should oil at about 100:1 as the RPM's are increased you should be 50:1 at WOT. The VRO is driven by the CC vacuum line in the bottom of the pump. A good tech will fix the problem, a tech that isn't will disconnect and tell you to pre-mix. If really in doubt, invest in a new OMS for about $275 and be worry free. Pre-mixing sucks. Too bad you are so far away.

too bad you are 4 1/2 hours away from ChampioNman he is the guru for motors. I personally have seen people come from almost as far to have work done. remember if you come you get to fish hartwell since he is a stones throw away from the ramps. I would also if you cant make it here do as he says since a blown engine is a heck of a lot more than a new vro. Just my .02 as a super satisified customer of Champ's!

Had the same problem a few years ago. Looked like a blue comet coming down the lake. It was the VRO. Better too much oil than not enough.

    championman ,
if the gas wouldnt cost me 200 i would just let you play with it but i found a new omc VRO2 pump from my dealer for 214.73 (i have a good friend in the parts dept.

i am going to go ahead and replace it . it is 14 years old and that is one part that i dont think i want to go out completely

does anyone know if i am correct in assuming that the VRO2 is the replacement for the old style vro pump?
