    1990 GT 200

I have a '90 GT 200 on a Javelin 409 F/S that I bought used in '97. It had ~25 hours on it when I bought it. I probably put ~15-20 hrs a year on it, so all total it has no more than ~200 hours on it. I have never de-carbed the motor, nor the motor of any other boat I've owned, but after reading some info on it would like to do so. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated as to the easiest and most effective way to do this. The motor still runs great and I am real skeptical about doing something that may cause damage. I only run "fresh" gas (drain the tank every year), burn 87 octane with sea-foam, use penz-oil synthetic, change the lower unit oil annually, and change the plugs every other year. Thanks in advance for your help.

One other thing since I'm on, the tilt/trim has started leaking down. You can hear the creak, creak, creak of the motor going down while fishing shallow water or just sitting under the shelter. There are no visible leaks and when I check the cylinder, it appears to be full. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Decarboning will not hurt your motor. You are already doing more than the average person, but the only way to keep the rings floating freely is to decarbonize it. Once in a while in your case is good, you not running the balls out of it every year. You could do it when you do the plug change, you need to change them after decarboning anyway.

Try this, trim the motor down and put a piece of wood under the skeg. Trim down to the wood and stop. On the left side of the mounting bracket, you'll find the manual release screw give it about 5 or so turns, run the trim up for 30 seconds, then down for 30 seconds repeat the process 5 time then tighten the screw. Trim up and check the resevoir add fluid if necessary. Happy boating. CM

Thanks for the reply guys. I will decarb my motor this weekend. Will probably use a sea-foam mixture initially and then use some motor tuner sprayed in the carbs.

I tried the "fix" for the tilt/trim yesterday afternoon. Was able to add some fluid, but not much. It still 'creaked" some but not as bad I don't think. I will probably try bleeding the cylinder some more. thanks for the suggestion!
