    Cowling Mod?

I read a post on here explaining a cowling mod that I can no longer find. The way I remember it is you take off the scoop on the back of the cowling and shim it up with a 1/2" spacer and 1/2" longer bolts. Is that all there is to it? Is there any drawbacks such as leaning out your carbs? Is there anything to gain by doing this? I have a '99 vmax 150. Thanks for the help!

    Re: Cowling Mod? (coosaspot)

I did something like that back in the '80s on a ProV I had. I also filed the l/u into a point, thinned the leading edge of my prop, and removed the air silencer. It may have helped a tiny bit, maybe 2 MPH.
