oil consumption

my 06225hpdi is burning 1 gal oil to 24 gal gas. it fouls plugs about every 2-3 hours. i've adj the oil pump till the arm hits the stop. it was gapped at .020 when i started the adjustments,went to .014 then .09 then all the way to the stop with nothing happening each adj. some say that the yam. needs that much oil to run without problems but that plug fouling every other trip is a bitch. it has the 60v13 oil pump. does any one else have this problem or maybe oil pump bad. at 1:24 seems to me its double shot of oil. this is my first yami, all my mercs used alot less

Yamaha had a recall on certain set of serial# oil pumps. My 05' had the recall, took it to a dealer and they verified and swapped out. Call Yamaha and they can let you know for sure:

My 08 had the same issue and the local shop just said thats the way they have to burn.

So I stoped by the Yamaha trailer when the FLW was in town and had them look at it. They found one of the injectors out of sinc and set all 6. I was also told by the Master Tech at WOT you are going to burn 28-32 to one.

Thats what i burn now at wot I spent some time ideling and keeping under 4000 rpm and it went up to 42 to 1.

I have been fighting this from last year and ran 25 to 1 from day one. Set the oil pump back to .020 and have the motor set up per the yamaha manual for after break in service.

Also keep your rpms down or buy stock in yamalube

called the yamaha folks today and he told me basically what you said. link and sinc test along with a leakdown followed by head temp test. i ask him what the fuel oil ratio was and he was hesitant to answer but finally came up with 30:1 as a good avg.

Switch to a quality full synthetic oil too.
