Got to clean from water seperator all the way to the VST
I burn 10% ethanol fuel all year in my OX66 as this is all that is available here...What makes you think that having ethanol in the fuel will hurt it?

Im no expert but I don't think ethanol caused the problem. May be water in tank because of the ethanol but if he has a seperator he should be ok. Probably a coincidence that it happened at same time. I agree ethanol sucks for marine use but if he filled up right before he took the boat out it should be ok. It is not good for the ethanol to sit for long periods of time
Guys he said it had been sitting about a month.....

Ethanol has the inherant problem of absorbing moisture. There are two things a person should start doing immediately. One is to use some sort of fuel stabilizer and the other is to use a 10 micron fuel/water seperator. A fuel stabilizer that reduces moisture, like sea foam, will help, and the 10 micron filter will trap the water before it gets to the engine.
The longer an engine sits idle, the better the chance of the ethanol absorbing moisture.
I read in B&WB magazine (latest issue, January 2009, page 33) where Briggs & Stratton has a tube that can identify how much ethanol is in your gas. I think it retails for under $6.00. You can bet I'm ordering one!!!![]()
thanks guys for your help![]()

For RPM issues on the OX66, the common causes are spark plugs and O2 sensors. When the VST gets clogged, it usually will run fine, then lose power until the motor is shut off. Once restarted, it will do the same thing again when the gunk in the VST tank gets sucked into the VST filter again.
I've been running E10 for over a year in my 02 225 OX66 with no issues at all.
