    200 VMax ox66--> 225 Vmax ox66; What makes the extra 25hp?

    Hello all. My name is Jeff, and this will be my first post here.

    I've got a 2001 200 ox66 on a 20' Ranger center console. I bought the boat as much for the Yamaha as I did for the hull. The motor has been great, I use Ring-Free and 2M and the 10 micron filter and all that.

    I tried a search, and couldn't find specifically what I'm looking for.

    I've seen the (apparently) same 3.1 ox66 VMax with 225, instead of the 200 I have. What makes that extra 25 hp? Is it exhaust, or is it on the front end like fuel scheduling or injectors? I guess I'd be interested in making that upgrade to my motor if it's a fairly straightforward add-on that won't break the bank, and is doable in the first place. The 200 pushes the boat just fine (a 620 hull about 40 mph, fully loaded) through the heavy water here on LSC, but 25 hp is 25 hp. Is this a viable upgrade?

    And I'm not looking for hi performance upgrade packages or extensively modding the motor. I'm happy with the motor. But if this is a bolt-on or just a bit of adjustment, I'm up for it. That, and I'm just curious about the 225's I see at the ramp.

    What can y'all tell me?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    And the answer from Mat at Hydro Tec is heads and ECU; about $1500 in parts. Sounds really cool, but then I'd have to buy a 225 sticker for my cowling, so I guess the deal's off!
