I started the same thread in the electronics forum but I thought I would also post it here hoping to here from some Yamaha owners. Had a problem this weekend we hooked the booster cable terminals up backwards after we had killed the cranking battery running the bilge for over an hour. I blew the fuse on the motor and replaced it and charged my cranking batt before I went out tonight.
After two times cranking and running the electronics the batt was dead after about an hour. I wondering if it is my alternator or rectifier or whatever it is that is supposed to charge my battery is fried. I have a voltmeter but wondering how to test them? Quite sure battery is good as I have never had the problem till the sparks flew from the backwards hook up. Are those parts exspensive? Can I remove and install myself or is it something a mechanic needs to do? I have no onboard charger. :Thanks.
